Tour du Mont Blanc by MTB: A Guided E-Bike Adventure Across the Alps (2026)

Tour du Mont Blanc

The Tour du Mont Blanc is one of the most iconic long-distance trails in Europe, taking you through three countries—Italy, France, and Switzerland—while circling Mont Blanc, the highest peak in the Alps. This legendary route has been a favorite among adventurers for years, and now it’s becoming increasingly popular for mountain bikers, especially those looking for an extra boost with e-MTBs. If you’ve been dreaming of experiencing the majestic Mont Blanc massif on two wheels, an e-MTB adventure is the perfect way to do it.

The Thrill of an Alpine e-MTB Adventure

Riding the Tour du Mont Blanc with an e-MTB is an experience like no other. The added power of an electric motor makes conquering the challenging alpine climbs more manageable, allowing you to focus on the breathtaking scenery and enjoy the ride. You’ll experience an incredible mix of terrain, from flowy singletracks through dense forests to wide gravel trails with sweeping views of the snow-capped peaks, all without worrying about the strenuous effort required to reach high-altitude passes.

With an e-MTB, you get the best of both worlds: the thrill of mountain biking and the ability to cover more ground, ensuring you see as much of the stunning landscape as possible. This means more time spent enjoying epic descents, visiting charming mountain villages, and soaking in the awe-inspiring vistas.

A Journey Through Three Countries

The Tour du Mont Blanc takes you across Italy, France, and Switzerland, showcasing the diverse beauty of each region. Starting in the picturesque town of Courmayeur in Italy, the tour leads you across borders to explore the scenic valleys and charming alpine towns that define the Mont Blanc massif. Each day of the tour offers a new perspective, from the rustic French charm of Les Chapieux to the adventure capital of Chamonix and the serene beauty of Switzerland’s Valais region

This multi-country journey allows you to experience different cultures and cuisines, making the adventure more than just a ride—it’s a cultural immersion into the alpine way of life. You’ll stop in iconic towns like Chamonix, known for its mountaineering history, and Martigny, a Swiss town famous for its art and wine culture. Every day brings new opportunities to connect with the people, history, and landscapes that make this region so special.

What to Expect on the Trail

The Tour du Mont Blanc is renowned for its challenging yet rewarding trails. With an e-MTB, you’ll tackle a mix of terrains, including steep climbs, technical descents, flowy singletracks, gravel paths, and even some asphalt sections to connect the more remote areas. The e-MTB allows you to ascend steep inclines with ease, saving your energy for the descents and making it possible to explore more of this vast and beautiful region.

Each day’s ride is different, offering a mix of rugged alpine trails and more relaxed sections through valleys and meadows. You’ll pass by picturesque mountain lakes, lush green pastures, and towering peaks, always with Mont Blanc looming majestically in the background. The variety of terrain keeps every day exciting and ensures that you’ll never get bored of the journey.

Le tour du Mont Blanc MTB

Comfort and Convenience on the Trail

One of the key aspects of our e-MTB Mont Blanc tour is comfort and convenience. Unlike some traditional mountain adventures, you won’t be roughing it in dorm rooms or carrying a heavy backpack. Instead, you’ll stay in comfortable small hotels with private rooms, ensuring you get a good night’s rest after a full day of riding.

To make your experience as enjoyable as possible, we’ve arranged for your luggage to be transferred from hotel to hotel, allowing you to ride unencumbered and focus on the incredible scenery around you. Plus, there’s van support throughout the journey, providing extra reassurance and assistance if needed. This means you can fully immerse yourself in the adventure without worrying about logistics.

What’s New on the Tour du Mont Blanc in 2026

The 2026 season brings a refined version of our flagship Tour du Mont Blanc by MTB. We have updated the route to include lower-traffic singletrack between Courmayeur and Champex, refreshed our partner accommodations on the French side, and expanded our e-bike fleet to the latest 2026 generation of full-suspension Scott Patron and Bosch CX-equipped models. The tour is now offered with two pace options a relaxed 5-day version for first-time alpine riders and a sportier 4-day version for experienced mountain bikers who want maximum trail time.

Whether you ride a regular MTB or an e-bike, the Tour du Mont Blanc 2026 remains the same legendary loop around the highest peak in the Alps — three countries, four mountain passes and trails that few riders ever get to experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you ride the Tour du Mont Blanc by mountain bike?

Yes — the Tour du Mont Blanc is one of the most spectacular long-distance MTB loops in the Alps. The full circuit is approximately 170 km with around 8,000 m of elevation gain, crossing Italy, France and Switzerland. AVF rides it as a multi-day guided tour using a mix of singletrack, alpine paths and lift-assisted sections to make every day a quality ride rather than a pure transfer.

How long does the Tour du Mont Blanc by MTB take?

With AVF, the Tour du Mont Blanc by MTB takes either 5 days (relaxed pace, ideal for riders new to alpine multi-day touring) or 4 days (sportier pace, more trail time per day). Self-supported riders typically take 6-7 days. Lift assistance and our local route knowledge are what compress the loop without sacrificing the trail experience.

What’s the MTB route around Mont Blanc?

The classic MTB Tour du Mont Blanc starts in Courmayeur (Italy), crosses the Col de la Seigne into France, descends through Les Contamines and Les Houches near Chamonix, climbs over the Col de Balme into Switzerland, traverses the Val Ferret, and returns to Courmayeur via the Grand Col Ferret. AVF’s guided version uses the most rideable variant of each section and avoids the hike-a-bike portions of the standard hiking trail.

Should I ride the Tour du Mont Blanc on a regular MTB or an e-bike?

Both work, and we run guided departures for each. A regular MTB rewards experienced alpine riders who enjoy the climbing — expect 1,500-2,000 m of vertical per day. An e-bike (e-MTB) opens the tour to riders who want to focus on the descents and the scenery without the full climbing load, and lets stronger riders extend the day. Our 2026 fleet uses full-suspension Scott Patron e-MTBs with the Bosch Performance Line CX motor.

When is the best time to ride the Tour du Mont Blanc by MTB?

The MTB season for the Tour du Mont Blanc runs from late June through mid-September, when all four high passes are reliably free of snow. July and August offer the most stable weather and longest days but also higher hut occupancy on the standard route. September is our personal favourite — quieter trails, autumn light on the glaciers, and cooler riding temperatures. AVF guided dates are released for the full 2026 season — see the calendar below.

What’s included in the AVF guided Tour du Mont Blanc MTB tour?

Every AVF Tour du Mont Blanc by MTB includes a certified mountain bike guide for the full duration, all accommodation in mid- to high-end mountain hotels, all meals (breakfast, on-trail lunch, dinner), luggage transfer between hotels, lift passes where the route uses lifts, airport transfers from Geneva or Turin, and full mechanical support. Group size is capped at 6 riders. See available 2026 dates and book →
